practiceforatypingtest.com is a free online platform for typing practice and typing tests. We help students, job seekers and working professionals build the typing speed and accuracy that real employer tests, school assessments and data-entry roles actually ask for. Everything runs in your browser: nothing to download, no account needed to begin, and no cost to practise.
A friend, a job, and a typing test
This site began with a story its founder could not forget. A close friend had spent weeks preparing for a role he badly wanted. He studied for the interview, pressed his shirt the night before, and answered every question well. The hiring manager was impressed. Then came the part nobody had warned him to prepare for: a timed typing test.
The job needed forty words per minute. He managed around twenty-five, hunting for keys and watching his hands. A day later the offer went to someone else, someone who was not more capable, only faster at the keyboard. He had lost the opportunity to a skill he could have built in a few weeks, if only he had known where to start.
That felt deeply unfair, and it turned out to be common. All around us, capable people are quietly turned away from work because their typing speed falls short of a number on a test. practiceforatypingtest.com exists so that never has to be the reason again.
What we do
We give you a clear, structured path from “I type slowly and look at the keyboard” to “I can hit the speed and accuracy a job asks for.” That includes:
- Guided lessons that move from the home row through the full keyboard, capital letters, punctuation, numbers and symbols.
- Timed typing tests in one, two, three, five and six minute formats, plus an exam mode, so you can measure yourself the way a real test would.
- Targeted practice for accuracy, speed, coding, numbers and data entry.
- Instant, detailed results showing your net and gross words per minute, your accuracy, and the exact keys that slow you down.
- Progress tracking so you can watch yourself improve and keep a daily habit.
What makes us different
There is no shortage of typing tools online. What sets us apart is that our tool understands your situation instead of handing you the same generic drills as everyone else. When you tell us where you are now and where you need to be, we build a personalised practice plan around your current speed, your accuracy, your weak keys and your target. You get specific lessons to work on, in a sensible order, with a clear idea of how often to repeat each one.
How we measure your typing
Our scores use the standard method: one “word” equals five characters, net WPM accounts for your errors, and accuracy reflects how many characters you typed correctly. We explain exactly how this works on our How WPM Is Calculated page, so your results are always transparent and meaningful.
Our approach to content
Every lesson and practice text on this site is written specifically for practiceforatypingtest.com. We do not copy passages from other sources. Our exercises are grouped by skill level and purpose so each session has a clear objective, and our lesson order follows well-established touch-typing principles: learn the home row first, build accuracy before speed, and let speed follow naturally.
Who is behind the site
practiceforatypingtest.com was founded in 2026 by Ahtsham, a blogger with more than five years of experience creating helpful online resources. After years of building content that solves real problems for readers, he created this platform to tackle the one problem he had watched cost his friend a job: talented people held back by a typing test they were never given the right tools to prepare for. The site is independently owned and operated, and we keep reviewing and expanding our lessons based on how people actually use them.
Our promise to you
- Free and open: the core practice tools and tests are free, with no account required.
- Privacy-respecting: you can practise as a guest, and any custom text you type stays in your browser. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
- Always improving: we regularly add new lessons and refine existing ones so the material stays useful.
