Beginner: Your First Paragraph
Complete a whole paragraph in one attempt.
Instructions
Longer than anything you have typed so far. The aim is simply to reach the end without stopping.
Finger position: Relaxed wrists. Breathe normally.
Beginner: Your First Paragraph
Target: 22 WPM at 92% accuracy
Just start typing. Your speed and accuracy update as you go, and a full report appears the moment you finish. Nothing is timed until your first keystroke.
The timer starts on your first keystroke. Press Escape to pause where pausing is allowed. Pasting is disabled.
- abc Correct
- abc Incorrect (wavy underline)
- abc Corrected (dotted underline)
- abc Missed (struck through)
Press Esc to leave focus mode
Underlined keys are the home row. Use the opposite hand for Shift where you can. QWERTY (US) layout.
You can practise on a phone or tablet, but a physical keyboard gives a far more accurate WPM measurement. On-screen keyboards add their own delay.
See what is behind this result
Your speed and accuracy are above. A free account opens the rest of this test: every character you missed, how steady your pace was, a replay of your own typing, and a history that is still here next week.
- The full breakdown: raw and net WPM, CPM, error rate, corrected and uncorrected mistakes.
- Every mistake listed: the key you meant, the key you hit, and the word it happened in.
- A replay of this attempt, keystroke by keystroke, at the speed you typed it.
- Consistency: where you sped up, where you stalled, and by how much.
- A saved history, progress charts and weak-key practice built from your own results.
- Certificates, which carry a number anyone can verify.
Free, and it takes an email address and a password. Nothing here is behind a payment and nothing expires. You can keep taking tests without an account for as long as you like.
This result is good enough for a certificate. Log in to create one - certificates are issued to accounts only, so that the number on them can be verified afterwards.
You are practising as a guest, so this result is stored in this browser only. Clearing your browser data will remove it, and it will not be here on another device.
Tips for this lesson
- Keep your wrists relaxed and floating rather than resting hard on the desk.
- Return every finger to the home row after each keystroke so your hands never drift.
- Use the opposite hand for Shift wherever you can - it keeps both hands balanced.
- Read one word ahead of the cursor so your hands always know what is coming.
- Aim for the accuracy target first. Speed follows once the movement is reliable.
